• Contact local trade organizations, such as the local Home Builder’s Association.
• Contact the Better Business Bureau.
• Ask to see a copy of their license.
• Ask for personal references.
• Ask for written estimates or bids.
• Most builders offer at least a one-year warranty.
• Obtain appropriate building permits.
• Expect Surprises.  Weather, hidden problems...
